Storage - Bedroom
Unless your bedrooms come complete with well-designed dressing rooms or very generous built-in wardrobes, you may benefit from reviewing your current storage solutions. With the change of seasons and periodic purchases of new clothes and bed linen, it can become a challenge to accommodate our belongings in the bedroom areas, whilst not compromising their relaxing and stylish presentation.
Working with the space you have, it’s possible to display your cherished items, immediately lay your hands on everyday essentials and also secrete away those which you won’t need to see for some time. A combination of smart, space-saving, life-style-looking and cost-effective solutions are available on the market and there should be something just right for you.
- Under-bed storage hides a multitude of sins. If you don’t have a divan bed with drawers you can still create storage here with wicker baskets and cover them with cloth to repel dust or perhaps purchase some storage containers which will neatly fit in the space below the bed, sliding out when you need access to the contents.

- An attractive screen allows for temporary partitioning of a room or for an ultra-quick tidy.
- A window seat. If you have a bay or recessed window, building a window seat can provide a generous amount of storage whilst doubling as stylish seating. (comfort can be achieved by adding cushions or buying a piece of foam and covering with the material of your choice).
- Ottoman/trunk at the bottom of a bed is an ideal place to store cushions and throws as well as spare duvets should you have the space. Plain versions of these can be customized or you can convert an old toy box by painting or stenciling.
- Vacuum-packing. Shrink-down the space your out-of-season clothes occupy in your wardrobes by using your vacuum-cleaner.
- Hanging organizers are ever-popular as they can be purchased separately and put together to create something approaching a bespoke solution (whether for the inside of a wardrobe or for a free-standing answer to the ubiquitous space problem). They are produced in all shapes and sizes and widely available.
- Drawer organizers. Compartments for socks, underwear and ties transform the confusion of untidy drawers.
