Storage - Building a window seat
Building in a window seat is a wonderful way to add functionality and additional storage to a less used area next to a window. The following simple tips can be referred to should you wish to tackle the project:
- Create a frame for the seat as shown, if you have a recess or bay window it should match the shape and size of this.

- Fix the frame to the wall using appropriate fixings.
- Face the front frame using particleboard.
- Paint the external, visible parts of the board to match the window.
- Create cushioned panels from the top of the seat using particleboard cut to shape, foam, an appropriate fabric and a staple gun. To do this you cut foam to the correct shape and glue it to the particleboard, then wrap the fabric round the whole construction and glue or staple it down.
- The central part of the seat will hinge upwards to reveal the storage. A continual piano hinge is the best type for this.
