Doors - Changing a Mortise Lock
Required Tools: Screwdriver, Claw Hammer, Mortise Lock
- Ensure your replacement mortise lock is the same size and that the holes are in the same position as the old one.
- Remove the handle or knobs on the door. Remove the screws from the lock face on the edge of the door.
- Knock the spindle lightly with a hammer toward the doors edge to loosen the lock and then remove the spindle. Lever out the old lock using a screw driver. You may wish to place a piece of wood or a ruler against the door to stop the screwdriver damaging it and also to provide increased leverage.
- Insert the new lock and screw into position. Replace the spindle and door handle or knobs.
