Decorating - Peeling Paint in Sheltered Areas

More Articles

Required Tools: Sandpaper, Undercoat Paint/Primer, Trisodium Phosphate, Masonry Paint

  • Some painted areas on the outside of a house may begin to peel with time because of salt build in areas that are not washed with rain periodically. Places such as under the overhang of a roof are at risk.
  • Thoroughly sand away any paint on the affected area. Prepare a cleaning solution such as trisodium phosphate (available in most DIY stores as a white powder) and water. Wash the sanded surface with the solution and rinse clean with clear water.
  • Allow to dry and apply two coats of good quality undercoat paint. When dry apply a coat of house paint. Apply another coat once dry in severe situations.
