Doors - Fitting a Cylinder Night Latch
Required Tools: Drill, Hand Chisel, Screwdriver, Tape Measure, Night Latch
- Using either the template provided with the lock or the lock mounting plate as a guide, mark the position of the key cylinder at a reasonable height on the door. Shape a hole for the cylinder using a drill to make a series of smaller holes.
- Place the cylinder on the front face of the door and the mounting plate on the inside face, loosely fixing them together with screws. The connecting bar of the cylinder should protrude through to the body of the lock. Cut this to a length suitable to the thickness of the door.
- If the lock screws into the edge of the door you will need to cut a recess in the door edge. Use the lock to measure the required size then cutting the recess with a chisel.
- Position the body of the lock on to the mounting plate, making sure that the connecting bar engages into the lock. Fix the lock to the door edge recess using screws.
- Before we put on the striking plate make sure that the lock works, using both the key and internal knob.
- Close the door and measure the recess required to afix the striking plate, using both the lock and the striking plate to get exact measurements.
- Cut the recess and screw in the sriking plate. Now CHECK that the door opens and closes properly. Make adjustments to the depth of the recess if neccessary.
