Electrical - Fitting a new plug
Required Tools: Screwdriver, Wire Strippers, 13a Plug
- Use a screw driver to remove the screws on the face of the plug and remove the plastic. Inside, loosen the screws holding the sires in place and remove the plug.
- There should be three wires: Blue (neutral), Brown or red (live) and green and yellow (earth). Check the condition of the tip of the wires. If frayed you can cut the wire then remove the outer plastic to reveal the wires. Use wire strippers to cut away the insulation from each wire (about half an inch).
- Attach each wire to its corresponding connection (this should be clearly labelled on the new plug) and secure the screws to hold them in place. You may need to twist the wires around the connection to ensure they stay attached when you tighten the screws.
- Make sure that the plug cable is tightly gripped where it enters the plug. This will either be done with screws or a clamp. Check you have the right fuse inserted for you appliance and screw on the plastic covering to complete the job.
- Check your appliance functions properly.
