Repairs - fixing a damaged bath
Required Tools: Drill, Sandpaper
Other tools: epoxy resin filler, plastic scraper, enamel paint, buffer attachment for drill, acrylic paste
- To fill chips in bath enamel, use epoxy resin filler, such as that used in car body repair. Mix the filler and hardener as instructed by the manufacturer. Fill any chips with a plastic scraper so that the filler stands a little proud of the bath’s enamel. Leave to dry for 24 hours.
- Use a damp, very fine wet and dry sandpaper to rub the filler until it is flush with the rest of the enamel.
- Apply two coats of matching bath enamel paint, following the manufacturer’s instructions. If the paint is too high, sand down with the fine sandpaper until flush with the bath.
- You may wish to buff up the repaired patch with a car body restoring cream and buffer drill attachment.
- If you have a plastic bath you can use a colour matched acrylic paste to fill any chips. Scratches can be polished out using a metal polish wadding which will wear the scratch down to the lower plastic that retains the bath colour.
