Electrical - Flush mains socket
Required Tools: Drill, Hand Chisel, Spirit Level
- Warning : When working with electrics, always ensure that the circuit you are working on is turned off at the fusebox. Electricity is dangerous, and you should only work with your houses wiring if you know what precautions to take.
- Place the mounting box in the correct position (using a spirit level to ensure it is straight) and use a pencil to mark the outline of the box 5
- If the wall is solid, use a drill and masonry bit to make a start on the wall, and finish with a chisel or bolster. If you are fixing in a stud wall, you can use a saw to cut the plasterboard.
- In a solid wall you can use the method described above to run a channel for the electrical cable, and will usually have to affix the mounting box using wall plugs and screws. Mounting boxes for plasterboard usually have spring-loaded ‘lugs’ that are used to clamp the box in place once positioned.
- Once you have pulled the cable into the mounting box, all that remains is to tidy up and make sure everything is secure. You will often have to plaster channels and rough edges to ensure a neat finish.
