Storage - Garage

More Articles
Garages around the country are often bursting at the seams with family clutter. They have become truly multi-purpose spaces, accommodating vehicles, paints and varnishes, old toys, bikes, tools, Christmas trees and gym equipment etc. With all that going on it isn’t surprising that people are turning to smart storage solutions.

It isn’t altogether necessary to purchase bespoke solutions to deal with garage clutter. With a little effort and resourcefulness you should be able to re-use some pieces from your home.
  • Give a new lease of life to old kitchen/utility-room cupboards. So many of us simply discard our old kitchen cupboards after having a new kitchen installed, never thinking of the chaos which lurks in our garage. What better way to recycle these old cupboards than using them to create practical storage where it’s most needed? Adapting your old cupboards will also help you save a little money, which may prove especially appealing if you’ve just received the bill for the new kitchen!
  • Re-using your old kitchen/utility-room work-top in the garage will provide a useful surface for all sorts of tasks. Alternatively it’s possible to pick-up an inexpensive one from a DIY shop.
  • Lidded, plastic storage boxes can be picked-up cheaply from supermarkets and other retail outlets. produced in a variety of sizes and shapes, they can hold a lot of clutter and keep it dust-free.
  • Hose/cable-tidy. If you can’t locate these, simply hanging them on large pegs or brackets should suffice.
  • Wall-mounted bike stand. Keeps your floor-space clear in the garage. They are not difficult to find, especially as there are many on-line suppliers.
  • Garden tool racks. These can be fixed to the wall and hold different sizes of garden tools, gloves and shoes etc.
  • Utility hooks and pegs. There are specialist garage ones available or you can buy generic ones which will hold the items you have in mind.
  • Shelves/shelf units. Using this simple solution as you would in the home, items can be stored neatly away. Care must be taken not to over-stack the shelves and harmful chemicals should be labeled correctly and stored away from the reach of children.
