Storage - Living Room

More Articles
Livingrooms often have to contend with a lot of traffic and consequently clutter can gradually appear. Additionally, this is often the first room we show guests into and therefore adequate storage could be considered a must.

Understanding how you use this room is the key to deciding on what form storage you require. Your aim here is showing the room off to it’s best advantage whilst still having easy access to your belongings.
  • Coffee table. One obvious solution here is to opt for a coffee table with drawers or perhaps an in-built shelf. Creating your own coffee table is certainly a contemporary option with many people customizing old trunks and crates.
  • Magazine Rack. This will certainly assist in keeping papers, TV guides etc. off surfaces and under control.
  • Book Shelves. You could decide to put shelves in to an alcove or perhaps fix some floating shelves to the wall. An other option would be a book case. Using a combination of books and attractive objects, you’ll have the benefit of de-cluttering whilst still showing off a favourite vase or photograph.
  • Sideboard/dresser. If you have an open-plan livingroom/dining-room a sideboard may be the answer for storing napkins, tablecloths, best cutlery and candles etc. It’s also an additional surface to rest lamps or perhaps an ornament on.
  • TV Bench. Aside from resting your television on, these can often store an extraordinary amount of items. They tend to be compartmentalized inside, offering places to conceal DVD’s etc.
  • Pouffe/upholstered footstool. Modern versions of these are extremely popular currently and many feature a flip-up lid. This can be a great tidy aid and an alternative to a coffee table.
  • Display cabinet. Selecting this type of storage will afford you the opportunity to show-case your most impressive pieces. Often less is more here though, and so moderation tends to be the key. Cramming the cabinet full may end up looking too ‘busy’.
  • Drinks cabinet. This type of storage may suit those who do a lot of entertaining. It also tends to be a lockable type of storage and so little hands can be kept out, avoiding disaster.
