Misc - Dealing with Condensation

More Articles

Required Tools: Fungicide, Dehumidifier

  • Condensation occurs when warm air comes into contact with a cold surface. The resulting water can cause serious damage over long periods of time.
  • Kitchens and bathrooms also experience increased condensation from normal cooking and running hot water. One way to decrease condensation occurring is to heat the room i.e. with a hot towel rail in a bathroom. This increases the temperature of the walls and surfaces, decreasing the possibility of condensation occurring.
  • Extractor fans in can help to remove moist air from bathrooms and kitchens. A hood over the cooker can also reduce moist air expelled into the room. A simpler, cheaper method is just to ensure lids are kept on pans during cooking.
  • Dehumidifiers can be bought for extreme situations. These can extract large quantities of moisture from the air but can be expensive.
  • Anti condensation paint can also be used in rooms prone to condensation. These paints absorb water when subject to condensation and release it steadily when in dry conditions. They also contain fungicides to reduce the risk of fungal growth in your walls.
