Misc - Refitting a handrail

More Articles

Required Tools: Screws, Hammer Drill, Filler, Wall Plugs

  • If your handrail is loose it may be a hazard and must be refitted.
  • Remove the handrail. Check the existing screw holes, plugs and surrounding wall for any damage.
  • If the plugs are loose or the drill holes too big for the screws, remove the plugs. Fill with a plugging compound, re-drill the holes and insert new plugs. Reattach the handrail and make sure it is securely in position before use.
  • If the wall surrounding the attachment is damaged, move the handrail slightly so the brackets are on intact parts of the wall. Fit the rail in its new position (see Fitting a new handrail) and fill any visible holes with filler.
