Outdoor - Re-aligning a Gutter
Required Tools: Screwdriver, String, Spirit Level, Nails
- If water is pooling in your gutter, it may not be aligned properly. You will have to realign it to prevent any further problems.
- Check for any loose screws. Replace or tighten any loose or damaged screws or wall plugs. If the problem remains you will have to change the fall of the gutter.
- Support below the gutter in question by nailing long strong nails directly beneath the gutter. Put one at each end of the gutter you intend to realign then use as many nails as needed to support the rest of the gutter. Unscrew the gutter or its brackets from the wall.
- Attach string to the two end nails. Check it is straight with a spirit level and then move the nail closest to the down pipe down to give a fall of about 1/2 an inch per 10 feet.
- Align the bottom of the pipe or the bracket with the string and secure into position.
- Water should now flow easily to the down pipe.
