Doors - Replacing Kitchen Doors
Required Tools: Drill, Screwdriver, Tape Measure
- It is often more cost effective to replace just cupboard doors rather than replacing the entire cupboard unit. Many DIY stores stock standard sized doors that can revitalize an aging kitchen with the minimum of fuss.
- It may be possible to re-use existing hinges or handles with your new doors, but make sure that that anything you wish to keep will fit any pre-drilled holes in your doors. Especially check that the hinge holes match up, as many older cupboard units have different layouts to modern cupboards.
- When fitting handles, it is worth measuring everything twice to ensure everything will be straight, and avoid ruining any doors.
- Keep a note of the measurements you use when fitting handles, that way all your doors will match.
- When drilling holes for handles, place the door on some scrap wood. This will prevent and splintering or tearing of the door as the drill comes through.
