Plumbing - Replacing Taps
Required Tools: Screwdriver, Spanner, Basin Wrench
- Although most modern houses have standard sized connections for taps, it’s always worth double-checking before investing in expensive new taps.
- Turn off the water supply to the taps. Some rooms will have valves locally, but in most cases you will need to turn the hot and cold water supplies off at the mains. Drain as much water as possible from the taps before removing.
- Place a towel under the existing taps to soak up any spillage, and unscrew the taps from underneath. Many taps in sinks and baths are tricky to reach, and it may be worth investing in a special tap wrench that is shaped especially to reach up behind the basin.
- Remove the old taps, clean the up any dirt that has worked it’s way underneath the taps, and replace with your new taps according to the manufacturers instructions.
