Plumbing - Toilet - replacing the ball valve
Required Tools: Spanner
![]() |
- Turn off the water supply to the cistern and drain it by flushing and removing remaining water with a container.
- Loosen the nuts holding the valve in place with a spanner. It may be necessary to hold the valve or connected piping steady with another spanner. The position of these nuts varies between systems- they may be at the side or underneath the cistern. When the nuts are loosened, remove the old valve.
- Put your new valve in place and tighten the nuts firmly to secure the valve in place. Make sure the rubber washer in the valve has its concave side pointing out of the valve into the cistern to ensure a tight seal.
- Turn the water back on and check the toilet fills up as normal and there are no leaks.
