Repairs - Small holes & cracks
Required Tools: Sandpaper, Scrubbing Brush, Plasterers trowel, Filler
- Scratch along the edge of the crack with a filling knife to make a good grip for the filler. Dislodge any loose bits of plaster and dirt.
- Remove excess dust by brushing over the crack with a dry brush. Next, mix the filler with a bit of cold water to make a fairly stiff paste. Load it onto the end of a filling- knife.
- Drag the filling-knife along the length of the crack pressing the filler firmly into the crack. Once finished, remove any excess filler from the knife. Drag over the crack one more time removing excess filler and ensuring a smooth finish.
- Wait for the filler to dry. Then use some fine/medium abrasive paper to smooth to the level of the surrounding surface of the wall. Alternatively use an electric sander.
- If the hole is slightly bigger, use a pre-mixed plaster. First remove all loose material, sand down the rough edges and dust the hole clean with an old paintbrush.
- Use the plaster direct from the tub stirring it first. Use a small trowel and push it firmly into the hole. Ensure a good firm fill. Run the trowel over the hole to remove excess plaster and to smooth. Sand lightly once the plaster is dry.
