Repairs - Wall corners
Required Tools: Hand Chisel, Claw Hammer, Nails, Corner Trowel, Plaster
Other materials : Wood for batten
- Use a chisel to cut away any crumbling plaster until only firm surface remains. Clear away all debris from the damaged section with a brush.
- Using a softwood timber batten, drive two nails through on either end. Make sure that the nails are positioned closer to one edge of the batten. This is to ensure that the nail is furtherest from the damaged wall edge as possible. Also ensure that the batten is a good 3 inches longer than the damaged area.
- Align and fix the batten to the edge of the damaged corner. Make sure the nails are nearer to the inner side before you gently hammer the batten to the wall. Leave the nail heads protruding so that you can remove when finished.
- Plaster the damaged area with a suitable plaster making sure to 'brush' over the batten thereby creating a neat edge.
- Once the plaster is dry remove the batten gently, taking care not to crumble the new plaster. Fix to the other side of the corner and repeat steps 2-4.
- Using a corner trowel, finish off the corner edge.
